Think your not paid enough at your job? At least you’re not getting paid less than a dog.
In the 1939 Wizard of Oz a dog named Terry was paid $125 a week to play Toto (that’s a little over $2,000 in today’s money). Meanwhile the actors who played the Munchkins were only $50.
Maybe as an act of jealousy, Terry had to replaced for a while when actor stepped on and broke her foot. Poor puppy.
When Terry, then renamed Toto to take advantage of her most popular role, died in 1945 she was buried on a ranch in Studio City, Los Angeles. However her grave was destroyed by the construction of the Ventura Freeway in 1958. Meanwhile the Munchkins have a tasty donut treat named after them. So, let me ask you: Who has the better legacy?
